— the day I learned that diapers are sneaky little booby traps.

It started innocent enough: a cute little coo, that telltale face, and then — action time. I laid my baby on the changing table, smug in my skills. Diaper open, wipes ready… and then he peed. Straight up. Like a tiny, adorable fountain. I panicked, grabbed the wipe package for cover, and somehow knocked over the diaper cream, which rolled directly into the laundry basket.

In the chaos, I forgot to secure the new diaper before lifting him. Big mistake. My perfect swaddle hand-eye coordination? Gone. My calm composure? Also gone. My shirt? No longer clean.

By the time the disaster was over, my baby was happy, my changing table looked like a war zone, and I was laughing so hard I cried. Lesson learned: being a first-time mom isn’t about perfection — it’s about improvising, laughing, and keeping extra shirts in every room of the house.

A mother lovingly embraces her baby on a soft white blanket. The baby is smiling and appears content and happy. The scene conveys a sense of warmth and tenderness.
